Fix an iZotope RX installation or license error by separating four stages: account entitlement, download, installer execution and activation. Start with the exact product, edition and major version, then identify a perpetual purchase or subscription. Subscriptions use Native Access. Supported perpetual products also have Product Portal and manual authorization routes; iLok is a possible license destination, not a separate purchase type.
Find the first failing stage before reinstalling. A missing purchase needs an account or registration check. If installation completes but the DAW does not list the plugin, check discovery as well as authorization. Copy the exact error message so you can follow the matching branch below.
Choose Native Access, Product Portal or manual authorization
| Situation | Start here | What it solves |
|---|---|---|
| Product available in Native Access | Native Access | Install the version shown in your library |
| iZotope subscription | Native Access | Install and verify the active subscription |
| Supported perpetual serial | Product Portal or manual authorizer | Register the purchase and authorize the product |
| Perpetual product supporting iLok | iLok USB workflow | Activate the license to its supported destination |
| Offline machine with a supported perpetual serial | Challenge/response | Authorize without connecting that machine |
| Legacy product | Official legacy downloads and support | Find the older installer and supported activation route |
Native Instruments documents serial registration and installation through Product Portal. Its license-migration guide explains why an owned product may remain in your account without appearing in Native Access. Use the installer and authorization method available for your exact product; do not interpret a missing library tile as a canceled license.
For subscriptions, follow the current Native Access subscription instructions: sign in with the owning Native ID and install the included products from Subscriptions. Product Portal stopped managing these subscriptions on April 30, 2025.
Nine steps from missing product to working RX
- Identify the license. Record product, edition and major version, then distinguish a perpetual purchase from a subscription and check the supported authorization destination.
- Verify the owning account. Find the purchase or active subscription under the correct Native ID; register a retail serial where required.
- Check compatibility. Match the installed product version to its supported operating system, host and architecture.
- Choose the installer. Use the available Native Access entry, Product Portal or official current/legacy product download.
- Find the first failing stage. Separate a missing entitlement from download failure, installer failure and missing local authorization.
- Match the exact error. Check the relevant account, serial, activation destination or connection; escalate an authorization-limit message to support.
- Use offline authorization only where supported. For an eligible perpetual serial, generate the machine challenge and obtain the official response file. Subscriptions still need Native Access verification.
- Verify the licensed product. Open the Standard or Advanced Audio Editor where available; for RX 12 Elements, load an included plugin in a compatible host. Check the DAW instance separately.
- Escalate with evidence. Provide the exact product, system, installer route and first error through official private support, keeping serials out of public posts.
Record the result after each step. “Native Access sees RX 12 Standard and the installer completes; Logic does not list the AU” is actionable. “RX is broken” mixes three systems and hides the failing boundary.
Product missing from Product Portal
A product can appear in Product Portal after a demo download, a direct iZotope purchase, a retail serial added to the account or a previous installation. If it is missing, confirm that you signed into the same account used for the purchase.
For a retail serial, click the plus icon in Product Portal, enter the supplied serial and choose SUBMIT. Then use MY PRODUCTS > INSTALL/AUTHORIZE for the particular product. Check the purchase record for the exact edition. If it is already registered, use the refresh control and check the eye icon: a hidden product can disappear from the normal view. Show hidden products and unhide the relevant tile.
Product Portal excludes some older products, including RX 3 and below, and Exponential Audio products use a separate route. Also, Native Instruments products bought through the iZotope shop belong in Native Access. These are routing differences, not proof that a purchase vanished.
Product missing from Native Access
Check the owning Native ID, refresh the library using the upper-right control, and use the current Native Access version. The official missing-product checklist also notes that incompatible products can be hidden on an unsupported operating system. Enable Show legacy versions where available when looking for an older product; this does not make an incompatible release supported.
Account ownership and installer availability are separate checks. A suite may appear as individual products rather than one bundle tile. If the account shows the purchase but the expected product remains unavailable, send support the edition, version and account evidence before reinstalling unrelated software.
In a 2026 RX 11/12 download discussion, one buyer reported visible purchases marked Not registered and a blocked download page. The thread does not establish a confirmed fix or a product-wide outage. It illustrates why a receipt, registration state and download access should be checked separately.
Product appears, but download or installation fails
Check compatibility before changing permissions or deleting files. RX 12 has current operating-system, architecture and host requirements; an unsupported system will not become supported after five reinstalls. The RX 12 versus RX 11 guide includes the current major-version compatibility gate.
Use the product entry available in Native Access or Product Portal. If that delivery route fails, the official current downloads list individual RX 12 editions, while legacy downloads cover earlier releases. A downloaded installer does not itself grant a license.
Save your work, then close DAWs and the RX Audio Editor before retrying an installer so it can replace files in use. Keep the complete error text and any offered installer log. An exit code alone does not identify a permission, compatibility or download problem; follow the vendor instruction for that exact error rather than deleting folders at random.
Product Portal itself will not log in or connect
Check that the computer can reach the vendor site and that you are using the current Product Portal build. Confirm the owning Native ID rather than creating a new account to bypass a failed login. As a general connection check, verify the computer's date and time; correcting them is not a guaranteed fix for an account-side error.
For current license-server errors, iZotope says a firewall or antivirus may block outgoing traffic. Inspect quarantine and connection logs for the official application or licensing component. Add the narrow vendor-approved exception if required; do not disable endpoint protection or the firewall globally.
If the browser account works but the application does not, capture the exact Portal version, operating system and error. That gives support evidence to investigate application login and local connection handling without assuming the purchase itself is missing.
Invalid Serial: check the string and the product
First compare the serial with the purchase record, including any leading or trailing spaces introduced when copying it. Paste it into the official serial authorizer without changing the actual characters. This advice concerns an iZotope product serial, not every code accepted by Native Access.
The documented iZotope serial format begins with SN and includes a product identifier. Match it to the application, edition and major version you installed. An RX Elements serial does not authorize RX Standard. If an upgrade includes a different serial, use the one issued for the installed release.
Use the account purchase record as the reference. Compare the serial with that record rather than changing characters by guesswork.
“This serial is in use by another account”
This error can mean the email entered in the authorization window does not match the account that owns the serial. Sign out, inspect the purchase record, then use the correct account email.
If a purchase genuinely landed in a second account, contact iZotope about locating or merging accounts. Do not create another account and register the same serial repeatedly. The vendor, not a registry edit, controls entitlement ownership.
Provide the order receipt, product name and safe account identifiers through the official private support channel. Never publish the full serial in a public community thread.
“No purchase matched” or authorization limit reached
If the error specifically says No purchase matched or no remaining Challenge/Response codes, verify the registered serial and contact support about the remaining authorization attempts. Older serial-authorizer documentation describes a five-attempt threshold; that is not a universal five-computer allowance or a rule for every Native Access or iLok license. Follow the terms and error for your actual product.
Do not delete licensing files, change hardware identifiers or use an untrusted activation utility. Those steps can damage working products without changing the account-side limit.
Include old-machine replacement or hardware-change context in the request. A clear explanation lets support distinguish a legitimate reset from an account mismatch.
License Not Found after a successful install
A completed installation can still lack valid local authorization. The RX 12 authorization manual documents Sign In, Manual Authorization and trial choices. Sign In opens Product Portal if installed, or its download page if it is absent. Manual Authorization accepts a valid product serial; subscription users should first verify their active entitlement in Native Access.
The ordinary RX 12 trial lasts ten days from the first opening of the Audio Editor or an RX plugin, not from purchase or download. Continuing a trial does not repair a missing paid authorization or restart its clock. This is separate from the subscription trial and its account terms.
If the Standard or Advanced editor is authorized but a DAW instance still says trial, compare the plugin's exact version, edition and authorization destination. An old duplicate is one possible cause, not the only one. After those checks, follow the RX plugin discovery guide for host scans and paths.
iLok says authorized, but RX still opens in demo mode
A license deposited to an iLok account still needs activation to an eligible destination. For the documented iZotope USB route, open iLok License Manager, sign into the owning iLok account and activate the available license to the connected iLok USB key. Confirm the product and edition before choosing a license.
The iLok USB guidance explains that each publisher chooses the permitted destinations. Do not assume iLok Cloud or a computer activation is available merely because another plugin supports it. Use the method offered for this product; not every iZotope product supports iLok.
Keep the USB key connected while using the license stored on it, not just during its first activation. An iLok USB is a licensing device, not an ordinary flash drive. Check that License Manager recognizes it and that the correct iLok ID owns the license; an account email and an iLok ID are different identifiers.
Offline authorization for an isolated computer
Use challenge/response only with a perpetual product whose authorizer offers it. Open the installed plugin in a compatible host, or the Audio Editor when your edition includes it. Enter the registered product serial and owning account details, then select the offline challenge/response route.
The challenge identifies the offline machine. Using another connected computer, obtain the official response file through the account's offline-authorization option if offered. The legacy RX 6 manual documents that account-based workflow; its old website labels are not a promise that today's account pages look identical. If the option is unavailable or rejects a registered serial, contact official support with the challenge and product details.
Transfer the response file to the original offline machine using removable media, load it through Choose File in the authorizer and continue validation. The response is tied to that machine; copying it to different hardware does not guarantee activation. Keep the serial and response file private.
This is not a way to keep a subscription permanently offline. The current subscription FAQ permits offline use after installation but requires connecting through Native Access once per month to verify the subscription.
Legacy RX and inactive authorization servers
Very old products may not appear in Product Portal, and their original online authorization servers may no longer be active. iZotope points those users to legacy installers and offline authorization.
Keep the operating system in view. An old RX installer may authorize successfully and still be incompatible with the current host or architecture. A bridge or unsupported 32-bit environment is a different problem from license ownership.
If a legacy project must remain recallable, preserve the working machine image, installer, authorization records and exported audio. Those backups help preserve the project but do not guarantee activation on new hardware. Avoid upgrading the production system solely to test an old plugin on deadline.
Installation succeeded, but RX is missing in the DAW
For RX 12 Standard or Advanced, check the Audio Editor and the required DAW plugin separately. The edition comparison makes the boundary clear: RX 12 Elements supplies plugins and has no standalone Audio Editor. Load an included Elements plugin in a compatible host to check authorization; a missing standalone application is expected for that edition.
Then check format, plug-in path, host scan, blacklist and architecture. Logic uses AU, Pro Tools uses AAX, and many hosts use VST3. Installing the standalone editor does not guarantee that every optional plug-in format was selected.
Use the host-specific Editor, plug-ins and Connect workflow to identify what should appear. Do not keep resetting the license because the DAW is scanning the wrong folder.
What to collect before contacting support
- Exact product name, edition and major version.
- Perpetual purchase or subscription, plus the chosen authorization destination and any legacy-version context.
- Operating system version, processor architecture and DAW host.
- Installer route: Native Access, Product Portal, single installer or legacy download.
- The exact first error message and the stage where it occurs.
- Whether the product appears in the account purchase record.
- Whether the Standard/Advanced editor opens, if included, and whether the exact licensed DAW plugin loads.
- A private receipt or order reference—never a public full serial.
These details give support a useful starting point and help identify whether to investigate iZotope, Native Access, iLok, local security software or the DAW.
Final installation and authorization gate
- The exact product and edition appear in the correct account.
- The system meets the current compatibility requirements.
- The official current or legacy installer completes without hidden errors.
- The authorization route is supported for the product and purchase type; subscription verification is current.
- No global security protection was disabled to force a connection.
- The included editor or licensed plugin recognizes the authorization; Elements is checked in a compatible host.
- The DAW loads the intended current plug-in format.
- Receipts, serials and response files remain private.
For the rest of the failure tree, continue through the Fix iZotope RX hub. Runtime crashes belong in the RX crash and launch guide, not in the license loop.
Frequently asked questions
Does iZotope still use Product Portal?
Yes. Native Instruments still documents Product Portal for supported serial registration and installation. Subscriptions use Native Access; available migrated products can also be installed there. Choose the route supported by your exact product and purchase type.
Why is RX missing from Product Portal?
Check the owning account, retail serial registration, refresh control and hidden-product eye icon. Some legacy products are excluded. Subscription products and Native Instruments products bought through the iZotope shop use Native Access.
How do I fix an invalid iZotope serial?
Remove leading or trailing spaces, verify every character and confirm the serial's product identifier matches the installed application and edition.
What does License Not Found mean?
The installed product cannot find valid local authorization. Check the exact edition, version, owning account and destination. RX 12 offers Sign In or Manual Authorization; an active subscription should be verified in Native Access. Continuing a trial does not activate a paid license.
Can firewall or antivirus block iZotope authorization?
Yes. iZotope identifies blocked outgoing license-server traffic as a possible cause. Inspect logs and allow only the official component; do not disable protection globally.
Can I authorize iZotope RX offline?
Supported perpetual serials can use challenge/response: generate the challenge on the offline machine, obtain the official response file using a connected computer and load it back on the original machine. Subscriptions instead require Native Access verification once per month, even though installed products can be used offline between checks.
Why does iLok show authorized but RX opens in demo mode?
The license may be deposited to the account without being activated to the USB key. Check the exact product and permitted destination in iLok License Manager. Keep the key connected while using a license stored on it.
Why is RX installed but not visible in my DAW?
Check the plugin format, installed path, host scan and architecture, then verify that the host loads the licensed edition and version. RX 12 Elements is plugin-only, so it should be checked inside a compatible host; Standard and Advanced also have an Audio Editor.
